Abstract
Although invasive methods with endoscopy are golden standard to diagnose the H. pylori infection in children, it is not always easy to endoscope children. Non-invasive method with high sensitivity and specificity is desirable for children. Moreover it must be easy and be not expensive. Measuring the serum level of H. pylori IgG antibody is a cheap and reliable method to diagnose H. pylori infection in children. It may be necessary to estimate the cut-off value of ELISA test according to the ages of children. 13C urea breath test is suitable for children. It is easy, reliable and useful to evaluate H. pylori infection after treatment. Young children may show false positive results and it is currently expensive in Korea. H. pylori stool antigen test is known to have high sensitivity and specificity in children. Moreover, it is easy and rapid. For Korean children, serum H. pylori antibody measurement is recommended for the initial diagnosis of H. pylori infection, and urea breath test or stool antigen test could be used in order to confirm the eradication of H. pylori.
