Abstract |
Mycotic aortic aneurysm (MAA) is an uncommon disease, and aortoesophageal fistula (AEF) is also a rare complication of aortic aneurysm. An 81-year-old woman, who had no prior medical history, was transferred to the emergency department due to massive hematemesis. Emergent esophagogastroscopy showed an exposed vessel with blood spurting in the midesophagus. Chest computed tomography angiography demonstrated a mycotic aneurysm of the descending thoracic aorta and AEF. Due to high surgical risk, endovascular stent-graft was performed to control massive esophageal bleeding. After the procedure, the patient was stable without further bleeding. Endovascular stent-graft greatly contributed to the treatment of the patient at high surgical risk who had MAA and AEF. Therefore, we report one case of life-threatening AEF bleeding associated with mycotic aneurysm of the descending thoracic aorta that recovered after endovascular stent-graft placement. |
